Left Accents #3

What is Left Accents #3?

This exercise challenges your left hand with an uneven accent pattern. In each four-note group, the accent placement alternates - first group has accents on notes 1 and 4, second group has an accent on note 3, then the pattern repeats.

Note: If your weak hand is your right hand, perform this exercise with the right hand instead.

Essential Tips for Mastering Dynamics with your Weak Hand on Drums

Start slow and focus on:

  • Clean execution of the alternating accent pattern
  • Consistent volume on unaccented notes
  • Even spacing between all notes
  • Relaxed grip throughout the pattern

Common Mistakes when Playing Uneven Accent Patterns

  • Losing the accent pattern sequence
  • Rushing through unaccented notes
  • Tensing up during accent changes
  • Breaking time between groups

Start at around 40 BPM and increase speed only when you can maintain clear accents and even spacing. This pattern requires focus and patience to get right.
