Double Paradiddle

What is a double paradiddle?

The Double Paradiddle extends the paradiddle pattern with extra alternating strokes. The basic structure is:

  • Each note grouping begins with four single notes and one set of doubles
  • First note of each six-note phrase is accented
  • Start each grouping with the opposite hand
  • Sticking pattern is RLRLRR, then flip it in reverse

Mastering this variation demands precise sticking control. Start slow and focus on:

  • Even spacing in the alternating notes
  • Clean doubles at the end of each group
  • Strong accents on count one of each six-note grouping
  • Smooth transitions between groups
