What is a double paradiddle?
The Double Paradiddle extends the paradiddle pattern with extra alternating strokes. The basic structure is:
- Each note grouping begins with four single notes and one set of doubles
- First note of each six-note phrase is accented
- Start each grouping with the opposite hand
- Sticking pattern is RLRLRR, then flip it in reverse
Mastering this variation demands precise sticking control. Start slow and focus on:
- Even spacing in the alternating notes
- Clean doubles at the end of each group
- Strong accents on count one of each six-note grouping
- Smooth transitions between groups
