What is a drag?

The Drag (or drag ruff) is two quick grace notes followed by a primary note. The basic structure is:

• Two soft grace notes and an accented primary note: llR, then rrL
• Grace notes are played very close together

The key to this rudiment lies in volume control. Start slow and focus on:

• Light, even grace notes
• Strong primary note
• Quick, controlled doubles
• Clean spacing between groups
