Single Ratamacue

What is a single ratamacue?

The Single Ratamacue is a hybrid rudiment with a triplet feel. The basic structure is:

  • Basically a single stroke four with a drag on the first note: llRLRL and then switch hands to get rrLRLR
  • Accent falls on the last note of each grouping
  • Can be played as triplets or in straight time

Mastering this rudiment comes down to drag control. Start slow and focus on:

  • Quick, light grace notes
  • Even spacing after drag
  • Strong accent on the last note
  • Smooth flow through pattern
