What is a triple paradiddle?
The Triple Paradiddle adds another pair of alternating strokes to the pattern so that you end up with eight notes in each grouping. The basic structure is:
- The sticking pattern is RLRLRLRR, then flip that and start with the opposite hand so that you get LRLRLRLL
- First note of each eight-note phrase is accented
The challenge of this rudiment lies in its length. Make sure you have mastered the other paradiddles before approaching this one. Start slow and focus on:
- Even alternating strokes
- Clean doubles at the end of each grouping
- Strong accents to mark beginning of phrases
- Smooth flow through the full sequence
