Triple Paradiddle

What is a triple paradiddle?

The Triple Paradiddle adds another pair of alternating strokes to the pattern so that you end up with eight notes in each grouping. The basic structure is:

  • The sticking pattern is RLRLRLRR, then flip that and start with the opposite hand so that you get LRLRLRLL
  • First note of each eight-note phrase is accented

The challenge of this rudiment lies in its length. Make sure you have mastered the other paradiddles before approaching this one. Start slow and focus on:

  • Even alternating strokes
  • Clean doubles at the end of each grouping
  • Strong accents to mark beginning of phrases
  • Smooth flow through the full sequence
