Seven Stroke Roll

What is a seven stroke roll?

The Seven Stroke Roll combines doubles and singles in a flowing pattern. The basic structure is:

  • Three doubles followed by a single (RRLLRRL)
  • Final note typically gets an accent
  • Creates a strong forward momentum

Success with this rudiment comes down to learning to control the doubles-to-single transition. Start slow and focus on:

  • Even spacing between all notes
  • Clean, consistent doubles
  • Smooth transition to the final stroke
  • Strong accent to end the pattern
