What is a flam paradiddle?
The Flam Paradiddle is a single paradiddle with a flammed first note. The basic structure is:
- The sticking pattern is lRLRR, then flip this in reverse so that you start with the opposite hand: rLRLL
- Accent on the flam
- Four-note sequence follows paradiddle sticking
In order to get this rudiment right, you will have to focus on flam precision. Start slow and focus on:
- Clean flams to start each group
- Even paradiddle spacing
- Consistent double strokes at the end
- Smooth transitions between hands
